The Planning Meeting on Tuesday night was a success as councilors voted in favor of the new application to develop the Pearl Street tower. There will still need to be a vote next Wednesday from the full council but things are looking promising.
A good amount of people got up to speak in favor of the plan at the meeting. There were a few people with their own ideas about the tower (art school, museums, etc…) and some people with hesitations about the planned billboards, but the overall attitude was that this is an ambitious project and we need to give it one more try.
The idea of billboards on the tower may not be everyone’s idea of improvement, but to improve the tower it needs to bring in some revenue. I’ve spoken with the applicant and he has the city’s best interests in mind when it comes to the renovation and billboards.
Here are a couple articles about the results of the meeting that were in the paper this week:
Sudbury Star: Water Tower Given New Life
Northern Life: Council Won’t Sign Off On Water Tower Debate
Remember to visit the Fromagerie Elgin before April 29th. The 28th is the last day as the show comes down on April 29th. We will be posting some photos shortly from the extremely successful opening night on Saturday.
Thanks for reading.
Seriously dude, those are the UGLIEST things ever. Typical of Sudbury though…
“It’s old, let’s save it!”
Old does NOT equal beautiful.
7pm to midnight for advertising revenue on those signs? Have you not looked to see what kind of traffic (both pedestrian and vehicle) go by that ugly thing between those hours? I wouldn’t give you more than $1/month to advertise on those things.
Furthermore anyone dumb enough to advertise there doesn’t deserve (nor will get) my money!
I hope you didn’t pay for ‘consultants’ and the like to tell you this is a good economic idea. If you did, the only good economic idea was you putting money in their pockets!
Tear it down dude. Save yourself some dough. And time. And trouble. And embarassment.
